Welding schools have sprouted and spotted the world since
the late 1940’s. R.K. Hopkins invented the electroslag welding process
in the early 1940’s. No effort was made to spread welder training until
the late 1940’s. USSR’s The Paton Electric Welding Institute developed
the information and presented it at the worlds fair in 1958. The United States
caught on to the idea around the late 1960’s. As late as 1980 it was
reformed it into what is termed as the “Porta-Slag.” The welding
classes for this revision surfaced in the 1980s, almost 12 years after the
beginnings of its use in the states.
A student seeking a welding degree can find many construction schools offering
the information; however, the Lincoln Electric Welding School specialized
in welder training and emphasizes its importance (http://www.lincolnelectric.com).
This welding university is one of Ohio’s oldest and most respected arc
welding schools listed under the Board of School and College Registration.
The process of instruction with the combination of private welding machine
use for each student ensures that individuals learn the techniques and skills
that today’s employers are looking for. Also offered at this school
is the option to specialize in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, pipe
welding or a motor sports welding degree. The schedules for welder training
are generally a set class list, cutting down on the amount of time it takes
to complete the welding classes that are required for graduation. Welding
schools generally offer the equipment needed that the welding university does
not provide for the students.
